Huskies Need to Work Hard in NCAA Bracket
UConn STILL has a lot of work to do. Earning the top-seed for the university of Connecticut doesn't necessarily mean that it will be easy for the Huskies the rest of the way.
A face-off with the Kentucky Wildcats in the second round, Illinois in the third and then the defending NCAA champions, North Carolina Tar Heels, in the regional finals is a possible path for UConn towards Indianapolis.
They know for sure that it won't be easy.
Losing to the Big East champions, Syracuse, reminded the Huskies that anything can happen on the hardwood and you WILL get beat if you come out of the basketball court physically and mentally unprepared.
Indianapolis will be the host for the 2006 NCAA Final Four and the Huskies, with the No.1 seed, can certainly smell it. However, they will need to go through a daunting list of potential opponents first, opponents with some of the big names in NCAA basketball.
''A ton of big names,'' junior forward Josh Boone said.
''We have to be sharp for this tournament,'' UConn head coach Jim Calhoun said.
''This tournament is a two-game tournament for us. We always take it as that, and our whole goal is to get to Sunday. If we get to Sunday, then we try to get to Washington,'' he added.
''You can't look past anybody,'' sophomore forward Rudy Gay said.
''Albany is our first opponent. I think the same thing happened to us at the Big East tournament. I think we were kind of looking past Syracuse, and we came out with a loss,'' he adds.
